Tawny (registered as Eyes Bright Too)

Tawny is a six year old mare, and is 14.2 HH buttermilk dun appaloosa- there is a little white on her rump but she is a paler dun. Tawny was to be used as a 4H horse but she is not for beginners. She is riding well and is nearly neck reined, and is completely sound. She does settle in and does well on trials with regular use as the season rolls on. She has been on a  few organized trail rides, she was nervous but did OK. She is located in Baraboo, WI.

A 5-year old 15-15.1hh dark bay (no white) standardbred mare. Temperament is excellent. Very easy going and easy to work with. Sweet and very soft in the eyes.  Cross ties, clips, bathes and excellent for farrier/vet. Was a pacer and suffered a minor suspensory injury during training this year and was stalled for 3 weeks. She then went into a private facility and was allowed into a paddock and moved freely with no signs of lameness.  She is drug free, UTD on shots and Coggins, as far as the current owners know.  Shoes on all 4 but they need to be removed and trimmed. She has been lunged and figured it out in 5 minutes and works wonderfully. Seeking immediate placement.

Race For Home

Raceforhome
This mare has had a hard run since last December.  She was returned to the ASAP program after being in the same home with the same family for ten years.  She came in to ASAP as a three year old who was not fast enough to qualify at the track.  She had been trained to race but never raced.  She then went to live near Marshfield along with Bart's A Bad Boy.  They were together for quite some time until finances affected the family's ability to properly provide for the horses, so they were returned.  Race for Home and Bart were then placed in foster care with a young couple who rode Race for Home and Bart.  The foster situation did not end well, and by the time Race for Home was returned to ASAP she had acquired heaves from poor quality hay while in her first foster  placement.  She also was emaciated. Race for Home has been very trusting in allowing us to treat her heaves and love and care for her.  She had been reported as kind of an aloof mare by others, but we see a loving, trusting horse who wants to do well.  She is still struggling with intermittent heaves, but is gaining weight steadily.  She went through a period of grieving when Bart's A Bad Boy found an adoptive home where the adopter wished to take Race for Home too, but with her respiratory condition was afraid to make the commitment. Race for Home was closely monitored and paired with horses that she attached to and is now thriving.  Race for Home is now 13 years old and deserves a family who can bring her the rest of the way to perfect health and give her the stability she so deserves.

3/31/11 Update on "Rosie"

She has gained a nice amount of weight and is looking very shiny right now. We will try to get a new picture soon for you.  Yesterday she had some new adventures. I set up an obstacle course in  the arena that consisted of barrel weaves, multiple caveletti jumbles, a bridge and a large/long tarp.  As Rosie is tall and I am vertically challenged,  we both find it frustrating to sometimes negotiate new things in a calm and relaxed manner, so a new tactic was employed. I saddled up my Max and he and I ponied Rosie through the obstacle course!   He is extremely patient with other horses, so when Rosie was hesitant at the tarp,   he stood patiently until she could stand next to him quietly (on the tarp).  She negotiated the bridge by herself with Max by her side and we weaved barrels until we were all dizzy... and traipsed over the tarp multiple directions and practice circles and bending and the bridge and over the poles for a couple of hours. Everyone was tired out!  But it was a very successful session!

Lou Annie

This great race horse was retired as a nine year old (she is now 10) after making over a half million dollars!  Her owners were anxious for her to be part of the ASAP family and took her to foster care near Peoria.  She is not very tall, but extremely sweet.  She is a bay.  She won the heart of the foster mom and it was intended, until recently, that she would be adopted by the foster mother.  Due to circumstances beyond her control, LouAnnie and Ideal and Ooops must come back to ASAP to find the right families.

Brandy

Brandy

Please consider sponsoring

Brandy's lameness is really only apparent when the ground is frozen. the vet out to look at her and she has some arthritis above her hooves in the front. On days where it is rough out, her lameness if definitely apparent but on days where there is snow to walk on or the ground is not frozen, then she is fine. The vet said the rest of her joints are all in really good shape so this seems like something that can be corrected or worked with. She just has days where she is sore. The vet did not say to restrict her action or anything like that. Brandy continues to thrive with the day campers who come to the ASAP farm.  She is walking better than ever now, without shoes. She is aided by a wonderful farrier who believes in natural hoof trimming and has helped her to the point where she no longer needs shoes. She is happy and the pinned ears and open mouth have all but disappeared.  We are proud to say Brandy is very happy at ASAP but the right person could win her over - come and see if you are the one!  Brandy is being ridden on a regular basis with a hackamore and goes both bareback and under Western saddle.  She has never offered to buck, rear, or do anything and is a perfect riding horse

22 year old Standardbred mare - trained to ride - 15 hands tall - needs TLC - very affectionate and sweet and willing to please. She had a disorder, possibly nutrition related, this past winter that made her hair fall out in many places on her face and body. Possibly mange mites. Treated and fed and doing well now.

Arlene's Dream

Arlenesdream

11 year old pacer, she had been on trails but needs work. Good ground manners. Arlene's Dream has been in the same adoptive home for many years.  She was   adopted straight from the training facility where a professional trainer retrained her to ride.  The adopter is ready to let her go to a new home. Arlene can be dominant in a herd.  She is named after one of the women who founded ASAP in 1993.  There were high hopes for this horse to become a mighty race horse, but when that did not happen, Arlene Nystrom referred Arlene's Dream to ASAP and she was accepted in as a 2-3 year old.  Arlene was killed in 1997 when a driver struck the driver side of her truck while she was pulling out of Balmoral Park to take a horse to a veterinarian. Arlene was thrown from her truck and died in the median.  She loved the horses so very much and loved this mare too.  She is probably looking down from heaven and hoping the right family will come along to take Arlene for the rest of her life.

Betty's Nightmare

Hello!!! My name is Betty's Nightmare! I know, I know ~ that's kind of a silly name, but everyone calls me Betty, and I'm really not a Nightmare at all!! I am a 3rd dam to Night's Dream, and that's how I got this name. I'm 15 years young, and also about 15 hands high. I am a black mare, and quite pretty, if I do say so myself! When I was young I was a pacer and I lived with Larry Goins in Indiana. I have lived with my foster person for many years, but sadly she has developed some bad allergies and asthma, and I need to find a different home. I haven't been ridden very much, but I have let children be led around on my back. I don't like to go into the woods, though ~ it seems like such a scary place! I am broke to drive, because of my background. Sometimes I am really sensitive and am not sure about being touched, but when I'm in a happy mood I love to have attention. I do know my commands, and when my person spends time with me I am very well-behaved. I need to have a person who will understand my moods and be patient with me. A couple of years ago I had some problems with one of my hooves. My person was very good about treating me and having a farrier work with me. It took a long time, but my hoof is getting better now and only needs more growing out under the nail. At least I am no longer lame! I am really good with the farrier and see him on a regular basis. Last fall my pasture buddy found a new home and I am lonely without her, and sometimes sad. I would love to have a person of my own who would love me and work with me and bring out the best in me. Is there anybody out there who would like to take me home? It would make me so happy. Even though I might sometimes appear to be aloof, I am really just sad without my buddy. When my foster person comes out to see me, she always calls to me "Hello Miss Betty" and I give her a big purr in response. So you see, I really do know my name and I want to have a person I can call my own. My adoption fee is only $100. Thanks for reading about me and I hope I will find a new forever home real soon!!!

Jumbo Shrimp

Hi everybody!!! My registered name is Jumbo Shrimp, but since that's kind of a funny name for a horse, you can call me Bella (or Shrimpy!) I am a brown/black bay Standardbred, and I'm a 23-year-old grandma. I stand at 15.3 hands, so I'm pretty tall for a grandma!!! I was born in New Jersey (I wonder how I wound up in Wisconsin!) ~ my dad was Direct Scooter and my mom was Gotta Headache. I raced as a pacer during 1989-1993, and had lifetime winnings of $48,638. I have had 10 registered Standardbred foals, of which 9 were raced. My babies have had total winnings of $565,557. I'm so proud of them! When I turned the grand age of 20, I got to be a pasture pet and have been used very lightly on trails. My original person had some financial and divorce difficulties, and so I came to be part of the ASAP program. I now live with my foster person near Baraboo, WI. I am a sweet old gal and I'm hoping I can find a family who will let me continue to be a pasture pet, or maybe even your best friend. I can be ridden lightly, but please don't make me work too hard ~ it wouldn't be good for me to be ridden extensively. Since I'm a grandma, I would like to be fed separately from other horses if they get too bossy with me, and I would like to have senior horse feed. My foster person thinks I might need some supplements for arthritis, but she is not sure since this is my first winter with her. I was really happy when I got a good hoof trim, and I don't have any signs of lameness. In the summertime, please make sure I have shade to stand or lay under.

I feel that I have had a very honorable career, and I would love to have a human companion to call my very own ~ someone to love me and spoil me in my golden years. I have a lot of love to give back, too. Guess what ~ my adoption fee will be waived, if the right person finds me and wants to love me!!! That's pretty neat!!! I hope there is someone out there who will come to see me and want to take me home!!! :)

22 year od Mare, she was raced. She is between 15 and 16 hands, bay with a white face. She is very malnourished right now and is pretty quiet unless you take her away from other horses. I do not think she has ever been ridden or could be at this point. She really just needs a loving home where she could be spoiled to make up for the suffering she has endured. Because of her condition, she does need a stall or shelter and blanket for the Winter. She is very sweet with people but I think can be a bit dominant with other horses.

Baroness Alios

Breed: American Quarter Horse (has papers to be filed). Height: 16 hands Color: Red/Blue Roan ( My daughter calls her miss America because in the fall she turns red, white and blue!) Gender: Mare, Birthday: May 17, 2006. Notes from placing owner: We rescued Ally from an auction when she was 4 months old. She came to us with ringworm, bacterial infections, and under nourishment. Her stock breeding is from the Dakotas from what we can tell. She tends to be more skittish but she is willing. She is more horse then my daughter can manage at this time and we would like to see her reach her potential as well. She stands quiet for the vet and is very personable with women. She tends to keep her distance from men unless they continue to try interacting with her. She needs work in standing quiet for the farrier but I have even been able to trim her hooves myself.

Z Tempest

23yr Arabian mare white no vices, 14.2HH, very loving, light riding, blind in left eye. Z is an aged Arabian mare - the original owner's friend recently contacted ASAP, clearly remembering Z and knowing her breeding, history and background.  Her desire would be to relocate Z Tempest back to Florida, but cost is preventing this from happening.  It would be a dream come true for Z to get to go home to Florida where she came from originally.

Wire Grass Jenny

Wire Grass Jenny is about 16 yrs old, is black brown and has a star on her head, a brown muzzle and pastern (?white) on her left hind limb. She is quite tall. Jenny and Rob the Till have both been in the same adoptive home since the late 1990's.  Jenny is tall and lanky - and was a riding horse at the family's home until they were relinquished back to ASAP.  It is desired that they be placed together since they have been together for so long.

BG Star

16'1 hand mare - stocky bay - coming back to program after many years with adoptive family - a veterinarian and his wife. Healthy- sweet - not sure if she was trained to ride.

Ginger and Solomon

Registered Quarter horses, mare and gelding. Solomon was gelded, and had some ground work. Thanks to the foster family's commitment to these two, they have been able to stay together. Ginger has popular Quarter horse breeding, as does Solomon. Ginger is trained to ride, but does need some further fine tuning to become a reliable riding horse. Her conformation is unbelievable, and so is Solomon's. Solomon is now receiving some training so he will be started under saddle.

Look Della

She came to ASAP from a very kind and compassionate couple who train in Chicago.  She last raced at Maywood Park and was donated as a four year old who was not racing fast enough.  Della went into foster care and did some pleasure driving.  She was then retrained to saddle.  Della has a sweet spirit and loves people.  She also has ability to be a speedy saddle horse if someone were to just "let her fly". She has never offered  to do anything wrong under saddle - she is willing and sound.  Healthy. Look Della stands at least 15'3 hands tall.  She has a beautiful head and face with wide set eyes.  This horse has been too long without a permanent family.
