A 5-year old 15-15.1hh dark bay (no white) standardbred mare. Temperament is excellent. Very easy going and easy to work with. Sweet and very soft in the eyes.  Cross ties, clips, bathes and excellent for farrier/vet. Was a pacer and suffered a minor suspensory injury during training this year and was stalled for 3 weeks. She then went into a private facility and was allowed into a paddock and moved freely with no signs of lameness.  She is drug free, UTD on shots and Coggins, as far as the current owners know.  Shoes on all 4 but they need to be removed and trimmed. She has been lunged and figured it out in 5 minutes and works wonderfully. Seeking immediate placement.

Race For Home

Raceforhome
This mare has had a hard run since last December.  She was returned to the ASAP program after being in the same home with the same family for ten years.  She came in to ASAP as a three year old who was not fast enough to qualify at the track.  She had been trained to race but never raced.  She then went to live near Marshfield along with Bart's A Bad Boy.  They were together for quite some time until finances affected the family's ability to properly provide for the horses, so they were returned.  Race for Home and Bart were then placed in foster care with a young couple who rode Race for Home and Bart.  The foster situation did not end well, and by the time Race for Home was returned to ASAP she had acquired heaves from poor quality hay while in her first foster  placement.  She also was emaciated. Race for Home has been very trusting in allowing us to treat her heaves and love and care for her.  She had been reported as kind of an aloof mare by others, but we see a loving, trusting horse who wants to do well.  She is still struggling with intermittent heaves, but is gaining weight steadily.  She went through a period of grieving when Bart's A Bad Boy found an adoptive home where the adopter wished to take Race for Home too, but with her respiratory condition was afraid to make the commitment. Race for Home was closely monitored and paired with horses that she attached to and is now thriving.  Race for Home is now 13 years old and deserves a family who can bring her the rest of the way to perfect health and give her the stability she so deserves.

3/31/11 Update on "Rosie"

She has gained a nice amount of weight and is looking very shiny right now. We will try to get a new picture soon for you.  Yesterday she had some new adventures. I set up an obstacle course in  the arena that consisted of barrel weaves, multiple caveletti jumbles, a bridge and a large/long tarp.  As Rosie is tall and I am vertically challenged,  we both find it frustrating to sometimes negotiate new things in a calm and relaxed manner, so a new tactic was employed. I saddled up my Max and he and I ponied Rosie through the obstacle course!   He is extremely patient with other horses, so when Rosie was hesitant at the tarp,   he stood patiently until she could stand next to him quietly (on the tarp).  She negotiated the bridge by herself with Max by her side and we weaved barrels until we were all dizzy... and traipsed over the tarp multiple directions and practice circles and bending and the bridge and over the poles for a couple of hours. Everyone was tired out!  But it was a very successful session!

Greek Fire

17 year old stud - in need of placement in Illinois. Greek Fire raced as a stallion and has lived his whole life as a stallion, but has never bred any mares. He is vivacious, with a loving personality.  ASAP is working out details to have him gelded before he is placed. If anyone is looking for a sound, beautiful Standardbred, Greek Fire is looking for you! If this horse is adopted, all necessary legal paperwork (coggins and interstate health certificates and permits) will be completed prior to travel.

Lou Annie

This great race horse was retired as a nine year old (she is now 10) after making over a half million dollars!  Her owners were anxious for her to be part of the ASAP family and took her to foster care near Peoria.  She is not very tall, but extremely sweet.  She is a bay.  She won the heart of the foster mom and it was intended, until recently, that she would be adopted by the foster mother.  Due to circumstances beyond her control, LouAnnie and Ideal and Ooops must come back to ASAP to find the right families.

Timesareachanging

Dominance issues within a herd - can run geldings through fences if mares are present and will become extremely aggressive without relenting.  We have tried five different herd combinations with Times and it does not stop his behavior.  Feel he may do well as a horse with only one pasture mate or with a herd of mares only.  Times is trained to ride and is beautiful.  He loves people.

Oops

8 year old Standardbred brood mare - 15'1 hands tall - bay.  No retraining to saddle has taken place at this time.

Depth Charge

STB gelding. Sire:  Outstanding, Dam:  Helen of Highland. Bay - originally from Michigan - raced until late 90's. Has been in adoptive home since 1999 - is well trained to ride. Depth Charge hates cattle and should be in a home without cattle.  He has not seen another horse since 1999.

Kingfish Elmhurst

20 year old Standardbred stallion. Bay, average height and build. This horse raced until age 9 or 10, and has been a family pet ever since. He is easy going and gentle - up to date on shots and worming - on turnou. Elmhurst is sound and healthy and looks more like a 10 year old.
